China’s Exports of General Aviation Aircraft Show Steady Growth Amid Rising Global Demand for Used Bush Planes

In the first quarter of 2024, China’s general aviation sector recorded a notable increase in the export of refurbished aircraft, particularly used bush planes, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs. The surge in international demand has positioned China as an emerging hub for the overhaul and resale of light utility aircraft, especially to markets in Africa, South America, and remote regions of Canada and Alaska.

Recent trade figures indicate a 23% year-on-year growth in the export value of used aviation equipment, with bush planes making up a significant portion. These rugged, short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) aircraft are highly sought after for operations in rugged terrains and undeveloped airstrips, making them ideal for humanitarian missions, cargo transport, and regional connectivity.

One of the leading Chinese exporters, SkyLink Aviation Technologies based in Shenzhen, reported a record number of inquiries for used bush planes, including models such as the Cessna 180, 185, and de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver. “We’ve seen a dramatic rise in overseas buyers looking for reliable, cost-effective aircraft,” said Li Wen, export manager at SkyLink. “Many customers from developing regions prefer certified pre-owned bush planes due to lower acquisition and maintenance costs.”

Global marketplaces and trade platforms have begun listing more used bush planes sourced from Chinese refurbishment centers, often equipped with modern avionics and reinforced airframes. Industry analysts suggest that China’s growing expertise in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), combined with competitive pricing, is reshaping the secondary aircraft market.

Meanwhile, international buyers are increasingly turning to digital trade platforms to access verified listings of used bush planes for sale, with transparent documentation and international compliance certification. Chinese exporters are also partnering with aviation regulators abroad to ensure seamless registration and import processes.

With demand expected to grow, especially in regions requiring resilient air transport solutions, China’s role in the global used bush plane market is poised for further expansion.
